International Forum On Afforestation And Reforestation Cdm (Ar-Cdm)

The United Nations framework Convention on climate change (UNFCCC) ultimate objective is the stabilization of green house gases concentration in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system. The convention takes cognizance of the fact that climate system is a shared resource whose stability can be affected by industrial and other emissions of carbon dioxide and other heat happing gases. The Kyoto protocol is an implementing instrument of UNFCCC, which among other things sets binding targets for the reduction of green house-gas emissions by industrialized countries. The protocol also establishes three innovative" mechanism" known as joint implementation (JI) , the clean development mechanism (CDM) and emission trading (ET). Parties may offset their emission by increasing the amount of green house gases removed from the atmosphere by so called "Carbon Sink" in the land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF). The Kyoto protocol came into force on 16.02.05.

To signify the importance of this protocol, Japan International Forestry Promotion and Cooperation Centre (JIFPRO) conducted International Forum on Afforestation and Reforestation CDM (AR-CDM) on 16 . 02 . 2005 in Tokyo . Mr. Anthony M. Maina attend ed the forum as a panelist with assistance from JIFPRO , through ISFP . Presentation is based on experiences and opportunities available in Kenya that Kenyan Resource owners (land) could benefit from.
