Training (TOT Training)
In August 2004, the DFOs, DFEOs, and the Project management staff at HQs were trained on Farmer
Field School training of trainers for two (2) weeks at KEFRI Kitui Regional Research Centre. The
course was coordinated by T. K. Mutinda who is the Eastern Kenya FFS Coordinator assisted by other
FFS facilitators from the Ministry of Agriculture Kitui. The course was done as a follow up to
the FFS exposure tour to Kilifi, which had been done earlier in June 2004. Twenty-five (25) participants
mainly DFEOs (16); DFOs (2); ADFO (1); KEFRI Kitui officers (3) and project management officers
from HQs (3) were trained.

TOT on FFS workshop: Participatory Introduction session
The methodology adopted in the course involved field exercises, small group and large group
discussions and presentations; informal and structured discussions; plenary presentations and
sessions; group dynamics and FFS visits. The output manual of the TOT serves as a reference material
prepared to be used by TOT graduates and other practitioners implementing or using the FFS methodology
in their working stations.
