Years ago I needed life insurance. I didn’t know where to go and I did not want to spend yet another evening with some guy in my living room. He would surely try to sell me more than I needed, want me to sign up right then and would not leave unless I pushed him out the door.
Then there is the stuff you get at the office. The insurance that most employers pay for wouldn’t cover the funeral expenses and the rates for sufficient coverage is questionable. Besides how much life insurance is enough anyway? You only have the guy that HR contracted with to sell his stuff.
It seems everyone NOT in the life insurance business wants to sell it to you. The car dealer, the real estate agent, the car insurance rep. even the auto club. It would not have surprised me for the guy at that big electronics store to offer coverage that would finish the payments on the new TV I just bought.
The best solution getting multiple quotes for life insurance on line. It is quick and easy. You fill out a simple form and a couple of companies call with quotes that you can compare with each other or even with that insurance offered at work. Who knows with the information you get from a life insurance on line company you might find that the work offering is good after all. At least you will have the information to tell for sure.
Musings of an Insurance buying customer
There was a day that I had no cares. It started out that the only thing of real concern was that I wanted to be comfortable. This included fed, dry and held. Ah, those were the days. 😀 Yeah right. With such small concerns come limited ability. To think about being any age before adulthood is actually depressing. So much of your life is controlled by others. It is just not worth the ease of no responsibilities to be confined to no abilities to self determine.
The worries of job, wife, children, church duties are in a real way a blessing. They provide opportunities to learn things which easily translate into capabilities. Capabilities mean freedom to self determine to greater and greater extents. Even something so mundane as the purchasing of insurance translates into freeing your time to think about the painful what ifs is dramatically reduced allowing for the contemplation of the exhilarating what ifs.
So I periodically think about the worst and go get another life insurance quote or at least review my current term policy. Then I am quickly back to the races in the more pleasurable pursuits of my grandchildren, or my wife
